Description of the Merchant

The merchant was wore a many colored dress, buckled boots and a beaver hat. He also had a forking beard.

The narrator calls the Merchant estimable, basically saying he was admirable. The narrator said he was also an excellent fellow, but that he was in debt.

I think that the Merchant was very blunt and told his opinions. Some may say he is obnoxious, but in my opinioin we really dont know if he told his opinions in an obnoxious manner. I think staying firm to what you believe is a good thing, but how you say your opinions is another. I also think that he was really good at exchange as the text says. He was good at spending money, but not very good at saving it, causing him to be in debt.
